I've been wanting to visit this interesting Highland burial ground for some time as it contains the grave of a pionering British military aviator; Captain Bertram Dickson.
Captain Dickson was Britain's first military aviator and largely responsible for the British Army's initial aircraft capability having demonstrated the potential and in doing swo flew the first ever military sortie. His flying career was short as he chalked up another first which was to be half of the world's first ever mid-air collision. Both pilots survived but Dickson finally succumbed to his injuries before his 40th birthday.
The same burial ground has a mausoleum for the Bignold family:
And a memorial to several members of the family including the interestingly named Arthur Thomas Bernado Bignold - de Cologan, Marquis de Torrehermossa of Strathbran!
