Hello,

I am doing photography as a hobby since about 8 years. Even though I started with a "high end P&S" Olympus 5060WZ, I have moved to film (mostly 6x6 and 4x5") and only use my elderly Minolta 7D when long lens, close focus, or fast results are needed. To get a better idea what my photography looks like just check out my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/31007239@N06/

So what a happy medium and large format user brings to Rcoh forum which is for the most part dedicated to digital compact cameras? Simply - my soon-to-start new work will keep me traveling around a lot with little time for photography. On these trips (often abroad) it will mostly not be possible to take my favorite camera (Mamiya 6) along for many reasons. So I started to look what is available in compact AF 35 mm film cameras (I tend do be demanding, so rather few qualified there - Contax T3 being the main candidate. Cameras like Leica M or Contax G2 are just too large).

But - as much as I like film - I realized that for this purpose a digital camera may be more suitable - allowing me to sort the images taken on the way and to put some of them online to share. So I started to look around and "discovered" cameras like Leica X1, Ricoh GXR, Sigma DP2s, but also compact cameras like Olympus XZ-1, Ricoh GRDIII and some others. Ricoh does play somewhat a special role - both the GXR and GRDIII are somewhat special cameras - not really main stream. I guess I like that :)

So - I came here to learn more about Ricoh GXR and GRDIII. I am first browsing around (some interesting info already found), but expect some questions soon. You have a nice forum here - I am looking forward to take part.

Welcome to the forum Matus, we do have some common ground in the large format like the view camera.
As for 6x6cm I use Hassalblad 500Cm and the Mamiya RB76. I discovered the GX100 some five years ago
and has been shooting with this little gem ever since. Hope you share some of your work here.

Hi Matus and welcome on the board! There are some very good photos at your Flickr! Feel free to post some photos also here.

BTW, I guess you are not alone on this forum who appreciates Ricoh approach of the camera design. Their customer support offering frequent feature enhancing FWs is very unique too. I hope you will find this forum useful and enjoyable ;)

Welcome, and you have some wonderful pictures on your flickr-site :D

Hello Matus, and welcome to the forum! I looked at your photos on flickr--very nice, especially the architecture and closeups. I, too, still shoot film occasionally--I have a Mamiya 645AFDII with the 45, 80 and 150 lenses. I develop my HP5 in the kitchen sink (LOL) and then scan on a Microtek M1 scanner. Very little detail or sharpness is lost this way and I then use Photoshop to finish in the digital realm. However, I have been shooting digital as my main medium for about 4 years. Last autumn I got a GXR and really love it! If you can get your hands on one to try it out, do so. I would recommend the APS-C camera units (18,3mm and 33mm) over the two smaller-sensor zooms. You will be amazed at the quality and versatility! Ken
