Hi Everyone,

Been posting some photos in the competition the last few months but have not introduced myself yet. I live in Sydney, Australia, but grew up in the country. I only started getting into photography as a hobby last year (I used to take pics before that, but never as a hobby - only at occasions and such, like a lot of people). My fiance has been into it for years, so after I met him I started to be inspired and found out I was actually pretty good at taking pics and that it was something I could enjoy for years to come :) . I was using my Kodak and his Samsung camera to start with, and then we both purchased the GR1 about 8 months ago. I now also own the CX3, which I have had since November last year. We wanted cameras that were compact enough to go on bushwalks with, but also capable of taking professional quality pictures. We also wanted something that was not too expensive!

I do not have any one 'style', and like to take pictures of anything, macro to infinity, objects to people to plants to animals to insects to buildings to scenery, etc., etc. I also like to do all kinds of things to some of my (or my fiance's) pictures on the computer, and sometimes I end up completely changing the original picture to something quite abstract looking. I have not read too much about photography as yet (I really should have done that by now - I haven't even finished reading the camera manuals), and just rely on ideas that I have when I get inspired at the time. Although, I do learn things about the camera as I go, and only yesterday I tried manual focusing for the first time on my CX3. I finally realised how awesome this feature is, and wish I'd discovered it sooner! Also, what was really cool, was that I actually inspired my fiance to start using the manual focus on his R8 (normally, I'm learning from him).

The other things I like to do is play the electric guitar (although, I hadn't picked it up in ages until last Saturday and am only still around beginner level, but learn fast), play with our dog, including taking him on walks, and play games on my computer. I am also currently studying Certificate 3 in IT (Applications) part-time from home.

Well that's all from me, and I look forward to hearing from you all, and checking out the other topics and awesome pictures on here.

Regards, Athena.

Hello Athena,
That was a very nice introduction. I recall some of your entries in the monthly photo contest. I especially liked the one in Geometry in B&W. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Welcome! Ken

Hello Athena, welcome to the forum...Am a new member myself, seems to be a great forum with a really positive feel to it and encouraging comments from all involved...enjoy!....Marcus

Hi Ken,
Thank you very much :D - I also liked your geometry B&W entry as one of my favourites for that month.
Cheers, Athena.

Hi Marcus,
Thank you. I agree about the positive feel. Cheers, Athena.

hi and welcome! photography's great isnt it? looking forward to seeing some of your images :D

Welcome, Athena! And welcome to photography too. There is a book which you can check out. It is Start from Here -- Understanding Digital Photography Techniques for Getting Great Pictures by Bryan Peterson.

By the way, I visited Sydney last summer, your winter. The city is much like Hong Kong. Lots to shoot. Have fun!

Hi Athena, and welcome, great to see another Ozzy here - I am a "croweater" south of the border of course.
Seems we have a few members in Sydney now I think.

Hi Nevin,
Thank you very much for the book recommendation - I will check it out today. Yes, there is so much to shoot in Sydney and there is bush just nearby (especially where we live), so there is plenty to shoot there too. Cheers, Athena.

Hi Tim,
Thanks :) , yes it's good to meet other 'Ozzies' on here. I like what I've seen of your pics so far. Cheers, Athena.
