In view of today's announcement of GX200, I would like to ask you, the users of Ricoh cameras, what would be your preferred number of MP with current sensor size (1/1.7 inch)? I'm completely aware that this poll is pointless, because it's all about marketing. But anyway, I would like to show the customers' preference in this matter.

Let's say there is currently (or in a near future) no option for physically larger sensor in GX/GRD range. What would be your preferred MP rate for current 1/1.7 sensor?

To be honest, I would not want the Foveon or any other APS-C sized sensor. It would make the camera bigger. But 4/3 would be just enough ;)

There isn't really a huge difference in camera size, I went out last weekend with the DP1 in one pocket, and my GX100 in the other pocket. Both had 'finders' on them, the GX was the more awkward to retrieve.

Even though the EVF on the GX is more accurate it isn't a match in the image quality stakes. Would be really nice to see the handling of the GR/GX series to be combined with the IQ output of the DP1!

Paul.

Definitely. DP1 is great Sigma's achievement and it's only a matter of time when also other manufacturers (including Ricoh) will present their DSLR-like compacts.

I think a 2/3" CCD like in the Panasonic LC1 or Fuji S1000 is the best option. The LC1 has a very good DR and resolves a lot of details but mantains the small sensor look.

It depends on the sensor.

1/2.5" - 5MP
1/1.8" - 8MP
2/3" - 10MP
FourThirds and APS - probably around 12-14MP (few lenses resolve more)
FullFrame - not really interested, but 18MP should be plenty

Prog.

Keep in mind that Fujis newest "small sensor" is almost 2/3", it is 1/1.6". Also, 1/1.75" isn't that much smaller IMO.

So my vote goes for a 1/1.6 10mp SuperCCD VIII *g*
If that's not possible then let it be the 12mp version...

I have to add that more megapixels without "adverse side effects" would be a good thing...

Well, my Fuji F31fd has only 6 MP and a wonderful low noise level. Would I want to move to 8 or 10 and get one stop lower ISO, making low light photo a lot harder? I don't think so.

I have a 5 Mp Ricoh GX, and although I want a newer one, I somewhat fear that the noise levels won't make it worth it. I am shopping for an R3 or R4 in order to get a pocket-friendly camera with anti-shake, and they have all the resolution I need. A GX100 is also on the to-buy list, though, hoping for something superior to the GX.

I think that 10 Mpixel is enough for large print size and that technology will improve so that we gain sensitivity and other parameters in the future - the difference between 8 and 10 is not a lot. I'd like to see improvements in noise AND more than anything an improvement in dynamic range. DR is more a problem to me than even noise at high ISO. Just IMHO.
