Having never seen such a beast I can just shoot blindly - a disco (possibly uv) ball?

Seems quite simple a construction though the size (small?), the bolting arrangement on a domed surface combined with the semi-circular seating arrangement for whatever attaches to it makes me realise that I really don“t have a clue! :( :roll:

Nope not a disco ball.
Although the results are somewhat similar.
 
What's common in your world Tim, is clearly a rare event in mine! Still stumped...each of the orifices must take an insert of some kind...presumably...or is it to do with laser measurement of some kind?
 
Andy, seeing one would be a very rare event for most people, so don't feel bad. Sorry.

Peter, with his disco ball is very close.
The result is much the same.

Not art, its use is scientific/educational
You are right about it being a light emitting ball, but there is a bit more to it.

YES, yaaay.

Here it is... a Zeiss Skymaster
Its only the second Projector like this that I have seen
